The Second Sex

She’s the soil, he’s the seed.

Diptych drawn during the artistic residency of Wom@rts in Angoulême, where a group of non-male comic artists were tasked to make work inspired by Simone de Beauvoir’s book The Second Sex.

Between 2019 and 2020, the works produced during these residences were included in a roaming transmedia exhibition along the partnering cities.

These two pieces are based on the chapter where de Beauvoir talks about the myths related to women, and more specifically how nature, for the most part, has been framed female, and thus to be conquered by men.
